Cincinnati Reds

A few weeks ago we were able to go to a MLB game and go and see the Cincinnati Reds play the Atlanta Braves - I will just spare you the suspense and tell you that the Reds won the game we were at, it was really sweet. While we were en-route to the big game we stopped at a flea market on the way there. I was hoping it would be a really sweet one you see on TV were everyone on HGTV gets super sweet finds and displays it proudly in their home...not the case.

It was basically the craziest, dirtiest disgusting place ever - and all those sweet flea market finds, garbage! But it was a most entertaining experience, and it was just 2 bucks to get in, for both of us, now that is a cheap thrill.

Nathan did manage to find a new friend while he was there though...The game didn't start until later and we had a few hours to kill. Unfortunately it was really hot that day, so we looked for things to do inside, and that led us to an art museum. That's right, I got Nathan to go into an art museum - mark that on your calendar folks. The best part is, he suggested it! Call it what you may, but I think it's love. Anyway, the featuring artist of the museum was Keith Haring, an incredibly famous graffiti style artist. It was pretty interesting for the most part, but we loved the top floor of the museum which was the children's area, which meant that it was interactive and actually fun.

Then came game time. ESPN was there for the pre-game show, if that's what they call it anyway. It was a lot of fun just to see how crazy people act just to get on camera. Here are a few highlights from the game...

A Trip to Kirtland, Ohio

This last Sunday we were able to go and see the Church History site of Kirtland, Ohio. It was a really great place to see where the early saints began building the very first temple. We were able to go inside, and see many of the original things from the church in the 1830s. It was a awesome experience and a great opportunity to strengthen my testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel.

We are still very much enjoying our summer, but we are certainly ready to go back home to a drier air - the humidity is melting us....one more month.

Recent Happenings...

Hello all of my five faithful readers - this update is for you. Not much has been happening lately, we had a small change of events for the summer where Nathan has got a job as the "dreaded summer salesman," but really it isn't that bad. We are at an undisclosed location for an undisclosed amount of time, and we are here with lots of Nathan's family - so it has been a lot of fun for us. We brought our trusty companion Duke with, largely for my own entertainment, since I find myself constantly bored.

As of late this is what has been happening depicted in a few random photographs...

First, way back in April - Duke turned 2! He got a new toy and I made him a peanut butter cake, dog friendly of course...

Next, for Mother's Day I made my mom some awesome polaroid magnets, which is basically copied the idea from this website, and mom loved them! It was a really great simple project.

Within the first week I was here (my secret undisclosed location that is), I went to a Taylor Swift concert with another girl that is out here working with her husband and the company - and it just so happens that we are in the same ward back home...small world, I know. It was awesome!!!

After a few days of being bored, I headed to the grand state of North Carolina to visit my sister-in-law, Amber and her family. She has twin boys, and they were a hoot. Take a look...I took these pictures in the car (Collin was really thrilled...)while Amber and I took turns shopping.

Meet Collin and Grant, age 3 1/2 - they are feisty little guys, but they were so much fun to hang out with while I was there.

Speaking of shopping, I have to tell you of the little adventure we had in North Carolina while we were on our way to a little shopping venture. So here is the story, we are getting in the car and I look down the road and I see a shredded tire, or what I thought it was...nope - this is what it really was....
a SNAKE! It was just slithering across the road, it was crazy and at least four feet long. So we watch it cross the road and get along our merry little way and then...a vulture flies down and picks up a squirrel, right in the middle of road! It was a wild, morbid morning, but we survived.

Also, Nathan had been studying his little bum off for the Dental Admissions Test (DAT), which we were both nervous about. He ended up taking the test and did really well (all that worrying for nothing), now we just have to apply for school and get on with this whole dental school thing.

Last but not least, we celebrated our 2nd anniversary on June 25th - it was so exciting. We went to eat at the Cheesecake Factory...yum. It was so romantic, and we had lots of fun. The end.

Finally a Break - Hawaiian Style

Spring Break recently came and went a little too fast than both Nathan and I would have preferred, but oh well. We were able to go to Hawaii for Spring Break - it was SO great to have a break from school. School got out and the following Sunday we left for Hawaii - it was a lot of traveling, but we finally made it there at 10:30am on Monday. We went to the island of Kauai, which is the first one on the left in this picture.

As soon as we got there we were greeted at the airport with leis and a gift bag with some information about the island and some other little knick-knacks.

After we got picked up by Nathan's mom, sister & our nephew we headed to Costco...I know, it's quite the thrill - first thing you do is visit Costco. But it was awesome! I always love me a good Costco run, but in Hawaii, I guess you just love it that much more. Once we left Costco we got to our new home for the next week. We stayed in the "city" of Koloa in the Marriot Beach Club - so fabulous, see for yourself!

Mary, Leann & Brennan ( Nathan's mom, sister & our nephew) had arrived in Hawaii the previous Wednesday and they had already planned out our week for us when we got there, which was really nice that we didn't have to worry about making reservations for anything. First we enjoyed a day at the beach, with some snorkeling of course - followed by a helicopter tour of the island - which was AMAZING! Here are some pictures of both:

The next day was pretty low key. Nathan and I got up early to go zip-lining, which was so much fun! Though rumor has it Mary somehow ended up upside down while she and Leann went - wish I could have seen that!

Lastly we went to a luau, which was way cool. It was awesome to get to eat so much great food and experience many different cultures.

All in all we had SO much fun, and I recommend that everyone visits Hawaii at least once in their life. It is a really great place to relax and have fun with your family.

Careers and holiday celebrations.

I'm lame. I have a hard time updating this whole blog thing - and I know that Nathan would never update it, I wonder if he even knows that this thing even exists? Anyway, to make up for my lameness I will just have to fill you in on the latest and greatest of the Leavitts. Since the last post we had an open house for Nathan's sister Emily and her husband Tucker from the wedding during Thanksgiving break (you will have to stalk Emily's facebook for pictures) and we also celebrated Christmas with Nathan's family in Lewiston. We stayed at the Leavitt's house for practically an entire month - and that is no exaggeration, but we had lots of fun and ate way too much food. Nathan claims that he gained 10lbs while we were there, which may be a slight exaggeration.

Oh, I forgot to say that when we got home after Thanksgiving we had a snow day! It snowed 8inches overnight in Boise, and the entire University was closed! Best. day. EVER. Duke really enjoyed the snow. Oh, and I had to buy Duke a Christmas sweater...Nathan hated that I dressed the dog.I think it's cute.

In January we started school again, I am taking some studio art classes, and Nathan is busy with sciences classes and an "internship," which he is basically getting credit for job shadowing. Oh man - I almost forgot the most exciting news of all, Nathan has decided to become a ....

DENTIST!

Maybe you all aren't as relieved as I am to know that Nathan has finally made a "final" decision as to what his career goals are. Originally he was pursuing Medical School but after job shadowing some of the professions that he was interested in, he decided that is wasn't for him. Erin, Nathan's dad-who is also a dentist, always has Nathan come in and help at the office and during Christmas Break it just sort of dawned on him that dentistry is the really the best option for what he is interested in. With all that in mind, he will be taking the placement test, DAT, this summer, and be applying to schools this fall and hopefully he will snag an interview. Yay!

Lastly, Valentine's Day is my FAVORITE holiday - but no one really knows why, I just like it. We went and had lunch together instead of dinner, we both have night classes, so it just worked out that way. I got Nathan Mario Kart for the Wii, and don't worry he has had it for a week, and the whole game is nearly beaten. And I got flowers and an iTunes gift card, which I really wanted. I also made chocolate fondue with strawberries, pound cake, rice crispies and brownies - it was, delicious, not to brag - but it was.

The Leavitts Lately..

Nathan and I have been really busy with school this semester - and taking summer classes did not help, we were completely burnt out and counted down the days until Christmas Break was here! This is probably going to be long post, so prepare yourself - I guess thats what happens when you never update your blog.Towards the end of the summer we finally started getting some fruit on the peach tree - and they were delicious! We tried making a Peach Almond Bread, but it wasn't that great, especially when you have the Leavitt family recipe for zucchini bread (I made a lot this summer).

Don't those just look delicious?!?!...they were! Once summer ended - we were busy with school, but I already told you that, so I guess that means that we are looking for sympathy? Anyone? No, ok - that's fine too. We had told the secretary at the institute that we were just busy with school all the time, and she asked "do you ever do anything to take a break?" Nathan and I looked at each other and said "no" at the same time - after that I kind of decided that there was more to life than just school, so we started renting one or two more redbox movies - talk about adventurous. But I think that there was a lesson we learned that day.

Then came October - which means Halloween, and I LOVE decorating for Halloween. I don't have pictures of the house, but for the Ward Christmas party Nathan and I dressed up as Woody and Bo Peep from Toy Story - it was a hit, but so were the other four that were at the party...

Let's see...after October comes November. We were really excited for the the coming Thanksgiving Break to spend time with family and take the much needed break from school. Nathan's sister Emily got married in Rexburg the Friday of the beginning of the break. It was a really nice wedding, Emily looked smokin hot - too bad she didn't compensate for the freezing cold weather though. I can't believe I lived there for two years and didn't die from being so cold. We also got to see Amber & Zach and the boys - it had been almost a year and a half since we had seen them, and they have gotten so big!

After the wedding we drove to Lewiston, stayed a few days, made gingerbread houses and then drove further to Pierce, Idaho, population 617 - a very small town, but half of my family seems to be living there. We had lots of fun playing games and eating a lot of food.

Now December has arrived, and it's nearly Christmas, and yes, we did survive the semester. We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

Blog Post Anyone?

Hello my long lost (few) followers of this desolate blog...it's me Ashley and I have come to update you on our very exciting life....and yes, that is sarcasm.

Let's start with the summer, shall we? Like I said, us Leavitt's are a really exciting crowd - all summer Nathan and I took summer classes. That's right, I said all summer. Nathan took Organic Chemistry - which was condensed to a 5 week course, (I don't recommend it for anyone) and I took a digital tools class and also a photography class, which was all film, not digital - I will have to scan in some of my favorites and expose them to the world wide web later. Luckily though, classes went from Monday to Thursday so we did get to some exciting things on the weekend. For one of the most hilarious events, it's best if you just read the Doss' blog on the weekend adventure in Cascade, where we went camping for the weekend. If that doesn't peak your interest, then I don't know what will. Anyway, we also celebrated Nathan's 23rd birthday while visiting his family to welcome the newest nephew. Leann and Steve really produced quite the little cutie. They named him Brennan Lee, and it was a truly amazing experience getting to hold such a new baby, just recently heaven sent - what a blessing. Here is a picture of the little guy...

Another thing that we did this summer was float the Boise River - a lot! We even took little Duke with us, which was quite the event. You see, from previous blog posts you will come to find that he does not like taking a bath, so you can imagine the nervousness I would have when throwing him into the river. But to my dismay, he did really well, he was walking all around every ones rafts and just had a good time. There was one incident that got me a little worried though, I'd like to think it was the "motherly instinct" in me, but Nathan just thinks I'm a freak. We where going over a "rapid" which took us maybe an inch off the rest of the water and Duke lost his balance and fell out, I was freaking out and basically shoved Nathan out of the raft to go and save the dog, in the middle of the "rapid" mind you....Duke ended up being fine and he can swim turns out, but it still makes for a good story.

Last but not least we were able to welcome in another new addition to our little family, are you ready for this?

Tada! Nathan and I decided to invest in a new MacBook Pro - and it's AMAZING!!!!!!! Since I am studying Graphic Design in school and as students you get waaaay sweet discounts for the design programs, we decided that it was time to take the plunge from PC to Mac, and I must admit - it's not as bad as it seems.

Brushes, BBQ, and Baths...OH MY!

Let's see, this should be an entertaining blog post since there is lot to talk about. Having a dog is much like having a child - or so I think...I'm no expert but this little guy really keeps us on our toes. Luckily he came house trained, so we didn't have to overcome that obstacle - but he has taken a liking to my make-up brushes, just take a look...R.I.P to the best make-up brushes...I guess the top one is still salvageable, but the bottom is definitely a goner. The weird thing is that Duke is so discrete about his "victims," we don't even know how he got the brushes we just noticed that he wasn't following either of us around and that usually means that he is getting himself into trouble - somewhat like a child. Right?
Continuing on with little Duke we had to wait 2 weeks until we could bathe him because he had been neutered just a few days before, so needless to say we were anxious to get him smelling good - and let me just say that this little pup does not like the water. Observe...Notice the intensity of those claws?! Duke was doing all he could just to get out of the tub - Nathan even tried joining him, and that was not appealing in the least for our little Duke.

Isn't that just the saddest looking pup you have ever seen? We have given him several baths since, and it's the same story every time. But I will say that it's very entertaining.

On to more exciting things...Nathan and I decided that we wanted to get a BBQ so we did - but I guess we were under the impression that we would just load it in the car, but those of you who own a grill know that is not the case. We brought it home in a box, that came complete with roughly a million pieces all for us to put together. Nathan and Duke both look a little distraught at the idea of putting it together. But we love it! It's fun and easy to learn to grill together and like I said, we really love it. And last but not least, we had better just mention my latest crafts. I made some really easy storage boxes for my craft supplies inspired from Make It and Love It. They were really easy, it just took a long time to cut out the cardboard ( I used all the cardboard from that grill we got).

The latest craft that I have made are rear-view mirror charms. I learned how to make them at an activity at church, and they are soooo easy! And not to mention really cute. I made one for my mom for Mother's Day and then my sister demanded that I make her one, and naturally I had to have one for myself.
There are pictures on both sides, and I used photos from the photo booth strips - they are the perfect size and I just love them. It's fun to switch things up with colors and what not, they are a success. That's all for now, I guess I should try not to wait so long to update so that my posts don't end up so long -but hey, at least I did it.

It's A Boy!

Don't worry - it's not a baby...haha. This last weekend Nathan and I have been very busy. We did lots of yard work, grocery shopping, and oh yeah - we got a PUPPY! We went to the shelter just to check things out after a trip to Costco, needless to say we just fell in love with this little guy.

Isn't he just the cutest! We decided to name him Duke. He really is a great little pup. He has lots of energy, likes to play outside and doesn't bark! That's right, I said it, he has not barked one time since he has been here! He couldn't be a better first time animal.

Also, a couple of weeks ago it was Spring Break - Nathan and I traveled all around Washington, Idaho and Utah. It was a lot of driving for one week, but we had a lot of fun. We went to Utah for General Conference with the Doss family from our ward. Since it was Easter we dyed eggs together and had fun playing with the Wii...oh yeah, and we did actually go to a session of conference. It was really great, and it's truly been a testimony builder to us both to feel the Spirit when you are in the same room as the prophet. It was lots of fun and I hope that we can do it again soon!

Thrift Store Finds

Nathan and I are quite fond of visiting the local thrift stores in order to find some new projects and good deals. We went this last Saturday and it was a success! Nathan found a pair of bowling shoes (he looks every time we go) and let me tell you, this guy just lit up like a kid in a candy store.It was an all inclusive deal, he got the shoes, bowling ball and bag for $3.00. Like I said, he was really excited.

And I decided that it needed a little revamping, and this is what they are now, and I'm so excited they turned out so great!
And here is a close up...I just love the Cricut and all of its wonderful talents. It's kind of a bad picture, but the other one is better, our walls are yellow - and it just looks so great! Wait, I think I said that already....

Happy Birthday!

Last week we celebrated a birthday - mine to be exact. I turned 22 last Thursday, and it was a fairly fun birthday. I had to go to school, so that was a bummer - but we went to Tucano's for dinner, and it was good but for some reason I didn't feel like I got the best bang for my buck ( even with the free meal with the birthday club). The funniest part though is definitely worth mentioning...the hostess was seating us at our table, and just as we got there and started to sit down, the woman sitting at the table right next to us reached over and took my silverware - it was the most awkward thing, and she played it off pretty well, but man, it was really awkward.

We came home and had "cake," though I don't really like cake very much, so Nathan made me a brownie cake accompanied with ice cream, and it was delicious!

Now this just looks confusing, Nathan did make a whole pan of brownies (that's how you usually do it, right?) anyway, he decided to cut one out and put all 22 candles on and it looked pretty funny.

To Nathan's dismay my gift did not come in time for my birthday, and needless to say I was pretty disappointed to know that my own husband didn't get me so much as a birthday card - but I guess he ordered it online and all is well in the Leavitt house again. So, you are probably wondering what I got, right?.....................

Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce you to, Sure Cuts a Lot - the perfect accessory to any crafter - it accompanies the Cricut for those of you who haven't heard of it. I have yet to make a cut, but I am so excited! I can't wait to used it! Overall, it was a pretty good birthday.

Homework seems to be occupying all of my time, and as a result I am lame and don't update the world wide web on my personal life - sounds kind of weird, but that's the world we are in, right? Anyway, since um, let's see...September there has been some exciting things that has happened in the last couple of months worth mentioning. First, in December for Christmas we went home to Lewiston, and spent time with family and Nathan received the best gift for Christmas...

Not glasses, but the ability to see without them! He got LASIK surgery on the 21st - let me just explain to you the miracle that took place. Nathan before surgery could not read the big "E" on the eye chart, I would say that he was blind, with a prescription of 20/500ish. After surgery his vision...dun dun dun 20/20! Just like that, after five minutes, trees have leaves on them and clocks really do have a second hand that moves. He got it as a gift from his parents for Christmas, and we both are truly blessed because of it.

Secondly to mention, as the new year rolled around we both started school again and unfortunately have completely opposite schedules, but so far so good. Just this last week, was Valentine's Day (duh, ashley), and I must say that Nathan did really well. I was a little concerned when he asked where my scrapbook paper cutter and glue were in the house - let's be honest, Nathan and anything crafty usually doesn't equate to anything worth mentioning. But, he pulled out all of the stops...I got home from church and there was a red rose in a vase with a note attached that said "you have found the first prize, there are others throughout the house that are either new or misplaced, each prize equals one 'reward." I found all of these prizes around the house, sort of a scavenger hunt if you will, and once that was finished Nathan laid down note cards on the floor, and I had to choose 13 of them (that's how many prizes I found). On the opposite side of the card were things that read "dinner of your choice," "foot rub anytime," and "servant for the day," just to name a few. It was terribly romantic...mostly because Nathan never really does romantic things like that. I was really surprised and I love it so much. We also made a fabulous dinner together, well, I guess it was more of a breakfast for dinner day.

Ladies and gentlemen, you are looking at a pink waffle with whipped cream and strawberries on top, and yes, it was very delicious! I guess that's all for an update at the moment, I will try and continue to allow some entertainment in the blogging world and update more...but I really shouldn't promise anything.

Arts and Crafts

Well, as you may or may not know, I have recently switched my major to Graphic Design, and as a result, I have been working on many projects so far this semester. So I thought that I would share some of them with you.

This was for my 3D art class. It was called "skeleton and skin" we had to make a frame of some sort and then add a "skin" to it. It's kinda weird, but whatever.

This was also for my 3D class. The assignment was called "transformation." We had to take an everyday object away from its usual use. I used lampshades, spray painted them all black, and made a mobile. This one is my favorite for this class so far.

This is for my Basic Drawing class, we had to choose a cluster of leaves to draw with charcoal. Love it!Lastly, this is my arts and crafts project for the house that I made on Sunday. I know it's way simple, but I just love it. I made it from a Scrabble board and letters (all together now, "duh-Ashley!). If you can't read it, it says "Welcome to the Leavitts." It is hanging on the wall right as you walk into the house. If you don't believe me, then you will just have to come and visit! :)

PS. I married the smartest man ever! He just got a 105% on his Physics test! We celebrated and went to Krispy Kreme last Tuesday. YAY Nathan!

So Long Sweet Summer

Nathan and I just started school this last Monday, meaning our summer is officially over, hence the title of this post. We have quite a work load ahead of us this semester, but it will be fun. We are at a new school and new town, so technically we have no friends...but we have a really great ward and we are also in an institute class, which is also awesome! Here are some pictures showing you all some of our summer adventures...

We painted our bedroom "vintage yellow." Being that I'm still obsessed with my wedding colors, I decided to go with the yellow, and it looks fabulous, if I do say so myself. I spilled a lot paint on the floor, lucky for me it was on the drop cloth.

Nathan also turned 22 this summer, what an old man...I made his birthday cake, we each had one piece - and for some reason we didn't eat anymore. That is discipline. I also forgot to buy candles for the cake, so we just used the only candle that we have. He was pretty excited.

And finally the most entertaining thing yet. We have had countless problems with our sink in the two short months we have been married. In one event we thought it would be a good idea to put the rest of unused not fully cooked pinto beans down the garbage disposal. To our dismay it would not grind up the beans, and so we had to fish them out. After some Drano and a little labor it finally started to drain. To top it all off, a few weeks later the drain stopped working all together. Nathan "googled" it, and next thing I know he has a shovel in the sink. All we had to do was move the blade around, apparently it was just stuck - oh, the things that the internet tells you to do.

It's OFFICIAL - We're Mr. & Mrs.!

That's right! We finally got married! It all happened on June 25th in the Portland, OR temple, and it was a perfect day! All except for one minor detail involving these two...

These are my twin nephews - Grant and Collin. Now, I know what you are thinking...they fell in the water, and took me with them (or maybe you were not thinking that at all) - well I must say that is highly unlikely considering they are not even two years old. Mind you this all happened while Nathan and were in the temple, waiting for our wedding party to arrive...so unbeknownst to us, these little munchkins got a hold of some car keys and managed to lock themselves in the car. Pretty funny now, but I'm sure that Amber and Zach (in-laws) were freaking out about it. Apparently they called the fire station and everything in the temple parking lot. I'm not sure how, but those little guys managed to get out of there safe and sound. So, the only thing that happened was that it delayed the wedding a little bit, which was totally not a big deal.

Anyway, now that I told the funny story of the day, I can give you some details about the wedding. We got married at 11am, more like 11:30 because of the "problem," and then we came out...

so happy, SO MARRIED! It was a crazy feeling, let me tell you, and I know that Nathan would agree with me. Our colors were yellow, black, and white - as you can see. I loved them! I had so much fun with them. We took pictures for awhile, three hours to be exact.

The photographer was Deyla Huss, HIGHLY recommended. She was so fun, and is from the Portland area. She even made Nathan like taking pictures, how sweet is that!?? So, when I get the photos, I will post some of those - I just know they are going to be awesome, well, I hope so anyway. Then we had a luncheon at the hotel we stayed at which was the Century Hotel in Tualatin, OR - which had an accompanying resturant called Hayden's Lakefront Grill - seriously some of THE best food I have ever had. It was a beautiful day, and I can't wait to see all the pictures from it. I think I will have to blog about the reception another time, I'm getting too lazy to keep trying to drag all the pictures down from the top of the post. You just wait until you see the reception...it was basically a huge garden of flowers - ha! that will make you come back for more! Anyway, I will get those pictures up as soon as I have the motiviation to do so.

Oh, and I wanted to say congrats to David and Leighanne on their new baby Maggie! She is SOOO cute! That's all.

Technically, Nathan and I were engaged on April 17th - so it's been a long time coming for this little blog to come to the internet world. To be completely honest, I knew that the proposal was coming, so Nathan claims he had to keep the only element of surprise left. So that morning he came and woke me up and made me breakfast - eggs and toast to be exact. I woke up for a little moment and saw Nathan standing in my doorway with a plate full of breakfast. He made his way through my World War III of a bedroom and said "good morning," and then he got down on his knee, said some romantic things and asked me - all while I was still trying to wake up and make sense of why Nathan was at my house so early in the morning.

That's the ring! I love it! And the best part is that he picked it out all by himself. Now, I have to tell you about the behind-the-scenes of the proposal. The night before Nathan had went to the apartment where I live with my mother and got the key to get in early the next morning. That's not all - he purposely kept me up late the night before so that I wouldn't wake up while he was cooking the breakfast. Needless to say, it worked.

We are getting married on June 25th, in the Portland, OR temple - and we are SOOO excited. And now that we have a blog you can all stalk our married lives together. Haha.
