Thanksgiving Break

We had a lot of fun being home for Thanksgiving, it was really nice to see Nathan for more than a few hours that I normally get to enjoy while he is going to school. It was a really long drive home, but luckily Quinn did really great in the car, and slept for a majority of the time. She really only woke up when we stopped to use the restroom or something - but I think everyone wakes up when the car stops, don't you?

Went spent Thanksgiving with the Leavitts this year and got to enjoy being around the family. Our nephews, Grant and Collin, celebrated their fifth birthdays while we were there. FIVE! Holy cow, that is just crazy to me. They are the oldest of the grandkids, and Quinn certainly enjoyed staring at them, once she figured out they were the ones causing all the noise she had been so frightened from in the beginning of our visit.

Quinn also got to meet her Great Grandma Chloe for the first time, granted it was in the hospital, which was unfortunate, but we were excited that she got to finally meet her. I asked Grandma who she thought she looked like the most, and she boldly said, "she looks like her!" I thought that was pretty funny, but I suppose she has a point.

We also met up with my sister Ember in Moscow, and ate some of the yummiest Mexican food I have ever eaten. Ember was a baby hog, and just held Quinn the whole time, but let's be honest I kind of expected that. We made an attempt to tell the waitress that it was my mom's birthday, because it really was just a few days before that...but our waitress got switched and their was never another sneaky moment to try again. We just wanted to see mom in sombrero...is that so much to ask for?

Oh, and one last thing, we got to put up our Christmas tree before we left to go home, because I knew that I wouldn't want to do it when we got back. I love it! Every year we have a tradition where we go and pick out a new ornament from Hallmark, and the rule is that it has to make some sort of noise. We have a couple of very entertaining ornaments, and it makes every year so much fun testing out all of the ornaments at the store - but I'm sure that makes us some very annoying customers. This year, Grandma Tanya sent Quinn one for her "baby's first Christmas" and I think it's super cute.

Quinn - 5 months old!

Time really does go by quickly with a little one, and it has been exciting looking forward to each day with Quinn to see what she will do next. She still remains tiny, I'm guessing a little over 12 pounds, but she definitely has some attitude to spare.

We recently went home for thanksgiving, and she got to visit Grandpa & Grandma Leavitt, and Grandma Tanya and Auntie Em (Ember). The Leavitts called her a "sober" baby, and I would have to agree. She babbles every so often when it's quiet enough that she knows she will be heard, but for the most part, she is just soaking everything in. She is constantly staring around at everyone and it seems like she is trying to observe every detail in a matter of minutes. It's very entertaining to watch a baby attempt to be so serious all the time. Grandpa Leavitt says that Quinn reminds her of Jacob, Nathan's little brother, and that he was always staring at people and hardly made a peep.

Don't get me wrong, she is a talker, but usually only within the walls of our home when it's quite and there isn't a whole lot going on. She loves to grab her feet and the day she turned five months old, everything clicked for her and she just started rolling all over the place, it was really crazy. That same day she decided that she wanted to hold her own bottle too. Granted, it wasn't for a whole feeding, but nonetheless, she decided that was what she wanted to do. I can see a trend of independence coming along.

One other silly thing about Quinn is that after so long, she is done with you holding her. In church, it's the worst! She will not let you rock her to sleep, she would just prefer that you lay her down, give her a binkie and her little bunny, and she will do it by herself. It's pretty funny how instantly she goes to sleep once you stop holding her. It's a little sad that she hates being cuddled now, but at least she is going to sleep on her own! I will say that she will cuddle for the first five minutes that I take her out of her crib, so I get my {brief} snuggles in then.

She still loves to stand and freaks out when you try to sit her down. The Leavitts had a hard time believing this to be true, and decided to test it out. She cried. Grandma Leavitt was pretty surprised and was in shock that she would just prefer to stand for a good 45 minutes rather than sit. I'm telling you independent...

Quinn - 4 months old!

Sorry for the belated 3 month post, but now onto more current times...Quinn is 4 months old! Man, time really does fly, but it has been exciting to see the new things that she learns as time goes on. Since we moved I haven't been able to find the battery charger for my new fancy camera, so these pictures will just have to suffice until I find that pesky little charger.

....Nathan has always said she looks like a stick figure - the big head and small little arms and legs.

As you can tell she is still just a tiny little thing, but that makes it easy for hauling her around, so we like it. I feel like this month we have really gotten to know what this little girl will be like. We have learned a lot of things that she likes, and a few things she doesn't like.

She loves to sit with dad while he plays the piano, she is completely mesmerized.

She loves to snuggle, but only if she can face outwards.

Lately she has been a little "chatty Kathy" and it has been really cute to watch her facial expressions as she discovers her voice.

She likes to be in her car seat, and especially likes to go for drives...but stop at a red light and forget it! She just starts screaming, but don't worry I still stop!

She LOVES standing up, and would probably do it all day if you let her.

Sleeps through the night from 10 - 8 (woo hoo!)

Loves to look at other babies, but is always surprised to hear how much louder they are than her, and has even been scared on numerous occasions.

Speaking of scared, big crowds are not her thing. She gets really scared in a room with a lot of noise, and slooowly starts crying and most people think she is trying to talk, but then she just screams at them. 

Wearing 0-3 month clothes...though most newborn outfits still fit.

Has rolled over from tummy to back twice! and makes valiant attempts at the opposite, but has yet to succeed.

Drools a ton!

 

Quinn - 3 months old!

Quinn has been such a great baby and wonderful blessing in our lives. This last month she has really started smiling, and even giggling. I love the days when the house is filled with her small little laugh - her favorite thing to laugh at is Duke chasing his tail.

She is still tiny, but strong! She LOVES standing up and facing outwards so that see can see what is going on - if you try to have her sit or looking at you she has a classic case of "planking" as we like to call it. She tightens her whole body up so it is stiff as a board and lets out a little cry. She is so great and we love everyday with her.

For your viewing pleasure...Quinn plays the piano! She really enjoyed it, in fact when I was bouncing her on the keys and stopped she got a little sad because she wanted to keep playing.

Quinn - 2 months old!

Well, time has come and gone oh so quickly and little baby Quinn is two months old already. She just got her shots today, and with the exception of the expected crying meltdown during the shots, she is doing great! The doctor says all is well, "she is just a small little thing." Here are her stats:

Weight: 10 pounds (14%)

Height: 21 inches (1%)

Head Circumference: 15.5 inches (35%)

 

Quinn loves to:

    -walk around the house and look at everything going on

    -stare at the ceiling fan, and also the dog, Duke

    -having books read to her

    -music

    -her bouncer

    -taking a bath

    -seeing Daddy when he comes home from school

The big 2-5!

Nothing says you are getting older than getting a razor for your birthday

Nathan's birthday wasn't a huge bash by any means...this was the first year that he has had his birthday while going to school, so we didn't have much time for all things fun. His birthday was also on a Sunday, so I told him that I would make whatever he wanted for dinner... BIG MISTAKE! He requested Cafe Rio sweet pork salads, which are delicious, I will give him that - but I slaved in the kitchen all weekend to make everything for the salad. It took a long time, and ended up tasting good too, and I suppose it was worth it considering all that he is doing with school and staying busy studying, haha.

Speaking of school, he just finished his accelerated anatomy class, and just started the "regular" semester today. It's terribly exciting. NOT. He studies a lot, but Quinn keeps me busy during the day, and I can't complain because she is pretty fun to hang out with. She is officially...

TWO MONTHS OLD!

How did that happen? I swear we were just at the hospital seeing her for the first time. Don't worry she will be getting her photo session wearing her "2 months" onesie later today, and I will post pictures later.
